About HVACCostDB

Transparent HVAC pricing data to help homeowners make confident decisions.

Our Mission

HVACCostDB exists to bring transparency to HVAC pricing. Heating and cooling systems represent one of the largest home improvement investments, yet most homeowners have little idea what they should expect to pay. We compile and analyze pricing data from across the country to provide accurate, up-to-date cost estimates for every major HVAC service.

How We Gather Data

Our cost data comes from multiple sources:

  • Contractor surveys: We regularly survey licensed HVAC contractors across all 50 states about their pricing.
  • Industry reports: We analyze data from HVAC industry associations, manufacturer pricing guides, and trade publications.
  • Public records: Building permit data and government cost databases help validate our estimates.
  • Consumer reports: Real homeowner cost reports help us verify that our estimates match actual market prices.

Our Cost Methodology

We present three numbers for each service: a low estimate (representing competitive pricing, simpler installations, or budget equipment), a national average (the most likely cost for a typical project), and a high estimate (representing premium equipment, complex installations, or high-cost markets). State-level pricing adjusts these numbers based on regional cost indices that account for local labor rates, cost of living, and market conditions.

Editorial Independence

HVACCostDB does not sell HVAC equipment or installation services. We do not accept payment from HVAC manufacturers or contractors for favorable reviews or pricing. Our brand comparisons and recommendations are based on publicly available specifications, warranty terms, industry reputation, and consumer feedback. We are supported by advertising revenue.

Important Disclaimers

All cost data on HVACCostDB is for informational and estimation purposes only. Actual costs for your specific project will depend on many factors including your home's unique characteristics, local market conditions, contractor selection, equipment choices, and time of year. We strongly recommend getting at least three written quotes from licensed, insured HVAC contractors before making any purchase decision.
